Designed by The United States Figure
Skating Association (USFSA), the basic skills program is an eight track learn to skate program
teaching the fundamentals of ice skating to all ages and abilities.
Beginning skaters start with the Snowplow Sam levels (1-3)
where they develop preliminary
coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice. The "Basic Skills" (Basic 1-8)
levels are the fundamentals of the sport. These eight levels of the program introduce the
fundamental moves such as forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, turns
and mohawks. Upon completion of the Basic 1-8 levels, skaters will have the basic knowledge
of the sport enabling them to advance to the more specialized areas of skating.
As skaters complete each level,
they receive an attractive certificate signifying their
accomplishment.
Cost of this 9 week program is
$95.00. Sessions are typically held on Sundays 11:00am - 12:30pm.
Each session consists of a twenty minute group lesson from a USFSA
instructor with the remaining time being supervised practice. Rental skates
are available to your child during each session at no cost if needed.
Helmets are recommended.
